What makes a great foster carer?
At Local Fostering we believe that being a great foster carer is not about your qualifications so much as it is about your qualities.
Our carers should share our enthusiasm for caring for children and young people, and take pride in contributing to their achievements. Patience, empathy and a sense of humour are also important attributes.
The basic requirements for fostering include:
- Being a British citizen or having permanent leave to remain in the UK
- Having a spare room that is for the sole use of fostering
- Being at least 21 years old (there is no upper age limit)
- Having plenty of time for the child – ideally, you’ll be able to foster full-time or at least have the flexibility to attend training, meetings and do school runs
